13,000+ Colorful Tulips Are Blooming In This UWS Garden
You’ve heard of Holland Ridge Farm’s stunning tulip displays, but did you know NYC has its very own tulip oasis as well?
A wrought iron gate takes you into The West Side Community Garden, a UWS hidden gem, and this free public park makes for the ultimate spring destination.
Each spring The West Side Community Garden boasts a breathtaking display of tulips–over 13,000 to be exact–and this tulip festival is currently in full bloom for New Yorkers to get into the spirit of spring!
“We know that the Tulip Festival is a family favorite every year. And this year we’re even more excited because of the sheer scope and diversity of the tulips we planted. We’re expecting an extra special display for the community to enjoy,” said Judith Robinson, president of the board of directors of the West Side Community Garden in a news release as reported by Patch.
Beyond the tulips the 30,000-square-foot garden also features over 2,000 other spring flowers including crocuses, hyacinths, and daffodils.
The West Side Community Garden is located at 123 West 89th Street, between Amsterdam Avenue and Columbus Avenue, and has entrances on both West 89th and 90th Streets.
The garden was founded in 1976 in a vacant lot and is currently maintained by members and community volunteers under the guidance of the flower committee. Smaller plots within the garden are assigned to individuals who are responsible for their planting and care.
The garden’s 2023 Tulip Festival is currently going on and will continue through early May. You can learn more about this stunning tulip display on their website here.
